The internal combustion engine is a key invention that has determined the development of transport. Its simplicity, power and versatility have made it indispensable in all sectors of the economy.
In internal combustion engines, fuel burns directly inside the working cylinder or in the combustion chamber of the engine. This engine is compact and much more efficient than other types of engines. They are chosen depending on whether the machine is mobile or stationary, as well as on the nature of the loads that arise during the operation of the machines and the duration of the load on the drive systems of the machine components.
Internal combustion engines are the main type of power plants used in machines for the construction and repair of pipelines. This type of engine has advantages over other engines: low specific gravity (weight to power ratio), constant readiness for operation, high efficiency, the ability to adjust the engine speed. The disadvantages of internal combustion engines include: the inability of the engine to withstand heavy overloads, the inability to start under load, and shorter durability compared to other types of engines.
Despite the development of alternative types, internal combustion engines will remain in use for a long time due to: a wide and developed infrastructure, relatively low cost of the car fleet, greater range and refueling speed, ease of use.
