Abstract. The article analyzes the power of the Polish and English languages as a motivational component for Ukrainian speakers when choosing to learn these two foreign languages. The survey method was employed as one of the primary methods of sociolinguistic research.
The power of any language is closely linked to the functioning of language ideologies within a society. Language ideologies serve as instruments that assign a specific value to a language and are invariably dependent on socio-historical conditions. Research into the power of language is an integral part of language policy. The sociolinguistic interpretation of the term "language power" has become quite widespread in Ukrainian society due to economic factors and the globalization of cultural values. Proficiency in English and Polish, along with the rapid growth of interest in these languages, clearly illustrates the weakening of the language's symbolic function.
