https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1932

The purpose of the article is to find out the specifics of the verbalization of the Austrian myth in S. Vincenz’s tetralogy “In the Upper Highlands”. The author is convinced that the mytho-critical interpretation of the work of the outstanding Polish humanist writer will contribute to the modern analysis of the idea of the tetralogy “In the Upper Highlands” at the ideological level, its correlation with the plot, genre features, and character. To implement this research problem, the author used interpretative, comparative-typological methods, myth-critical and cultural-historical approaches.

The results. The verbalization of the Austrian myth in S. Vincenz’s tetralogy “In the Upper Highlands” is explained by biographical, historical, ethnic and cultural factors that influenced the work of the writer, a native of late Habsburg Galicia, in particular the Pokuttia-Hutsul borderland. The interaction of these factors created the basis for an artistic description of an imaginary and artificial model of everyday ethnic groups of Hutsul region and Pokuttia within the borders of Austria-Hungary, its original virtualization. The Austrian myth in S. Vincenz’s epic novel is not equivalent to fiction, the author's fantasy, but its elements (the person of the emperor, the imperial army, ethnic groups) are evidence of the author’s subjective vision of the region after the collapse of the Habsburg monarchy in 1918, the post-war (after the WWІ) actualization of idealization of multinational space and fictionalization of reality. The specificity of the Austrian myth of S. Vincenz’s texts is that the first volume of S. Vincenz’s tetralogy was published in 1936 in Warsaw, and the following volumes were published in London in 1970, 1974, and 1979, respectively (the last two – after the author’s death), which testifies to the “two-dimensionality” of the writer's mythological thinking – in the interwar period and in the post-war period (after forced emigration and WWII), where time and space overlapped to a certain extent on S. Vincenz’s work.

The scientific novelty of the study – the mytho-critical reading of S. Vincenz’s tetralogy “In the Upper Highlands” made it possible to supplement the overall picture of the author’s worldview of a certain cultural and historical era – the interwar (1920-1930s) and post-war (after 1945) periods. The identification of the elements of the Austrian myth, its verbalization by S. Vincenz significantly complements the methodology of the analysis of artistic works, their literary criticism.

The practical significance of the article is that its main provisions can be used for further studies on the problems of the Austrian myth in world and Ukrainian literature of the 20th and early 21st centuries, and generalized for further modeling of the myth-critical analysis of the texts of the representatives of the Austrian myth – natives of modern Ukraine.
Tetiana MonolatiiNataliia Tkachuk

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1933

The article analyses Volodymyr Vynnychenko's children's stories from the point of view of reproducing elements of the national code of Ukrainians recorded in folklore texts. Attention is focused on the author's works "The Winds Are Blowing, the Winds Are Raging" and "Hey, who’s in the Woods, Call Out". It is established that the latter actively use folklore motifs, genres and images. They allow us to explain some of the folk traditions of our ancestors, to show the inseparability of the connection between the past and the present, and to recreate the flavour of the described era. It is determined that Ukrainian culture is characterised by beliefs in the existence of supernatural beings - witches, demons, devils, mermaids, sorcerers, werewolves - who can help or harm people. Vynnychenko borrows the images of a housekeeper and a forest man from folklore. The purpose of the study is to trace their transformation in these works and to find out their psycho-emotional impact on the characters. The historical and literary, comparative genetic, comparative typological and intertextual methods were used.

Novelty. For the first time, the author analyses folklore and mythological characters in Vynnychenko's children's stories. It is proved that his forest man/Korchun underwent a significant literary transformation in the text. Parallels with typologically related images in world culture are drawn. The functions of folklore elements in the works are clarified: the composition of the stories is built around them, the characteristics of the main characters are revealed through the attitude to folklore images, and the author's ideological and aesthetic concepts are realised. And in stressful situations associated with their appearance, the consciousness of small personalities is formed.

The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that its results can be used in further research on literary and folklore correlations in V. Vynnychenko's works.
Nataliya Kobzej

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1934

The article analyzes the pre-wedding rituals of Novoselytsya village in the Kolomyia (formerly Snyatyn) district of the Ivano-Frankivsk region, as well as the preparations for the wedding and the accompanying songs. In particular, it examines the components of the pre-wedding cycle, such as "obzoryny" (preliminary arrangements), "svatannya" (matchmaking), "zlahoda" (reconciliation), and "holoshennya zapovidei" (announcement of commandments). It is noted in passing that in earlier times, marriages were sometimes arranged by the parents of the bride and groom, who aimed to unite their land holdings and property.

The article also delves into the process of preparing for the wedding, which begins on Thursday. It describes the ritual of weaving a wreath, specifically highlighting the plants and objects used in its making. The step-by-step process of decorating the bride and groom's home is also presented. It is mentioned that local residents believe that the spruce tree protects against misfortune.

Illustrated in the article is the fact that one of the stages of wedding preparation in Novoselytsya village occurs on Friday when the future bride is expected to invite the groom's parents to the wedding. Symbolic imagery in songs performed during the wedding preparations is also analyzed. Notably, symbols such as viburnum, berries, a garden, flowers, and a wedding bread (kalach) are singled out, and their connection to the wedding ritual is explained.

The article establishes that family and ritual creativity are closely intertwined with the daily lives of Novoselytsya residents and accompany significant events, including weddings. In addition to its utilitarian function, wedding folklore often serves a magical and ritualistic purpose. The study and preservation of cultural heritage are crucial for understanding and analyzing the cultural and historical development of a specific locality.
Nataliya VivcharykMyroslava Hlushko

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1935

The purpose of the article is to interpret Vasyl Stefanyk's work from the standpoint of new methodological and methodical approaches. Using the example of the writer's short story "Stone Cross", the method of slow reading is proposed as the main method of educational analysis of this work in the system of school and university education. Using the synthesis of scientific methodology (hermeneutic, philological, linguistic, etc.), the results of the research are proven, the main of which are: understanding the text, the ability to analyze it, and the ability to create a text. As the author of the article convinces, cognitive and educational processes for both pupils and students are laid down in this triad during the slow reading of the "Stone Cross". They allow a deeper understanding of Vasyl Stefanyk's unique work and at the same time learn about the ways of its ideological and aesthetic expression. In general, the method of slow reading of an artistic text, in the researcher's opinion, is the most optimal in identifying and perceiving the artistic features of works of literature, it contributes to their aesthetic mastery slowing down the pace of analysis of their content and form-creating fullness. Scientific novelty of the study: for the first time, Vasyl Stefanyk's work "Stone Cross" was analyzed from new methodological and methodical positions, a view of the analysis of the entire work of the classic writer was projected in this way. The practical significance of the article is that its results can be used by teachers in secondary and higher schools when analyzing the works of the Ukrainian novelist.
Hryhoriy Klochek

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1928

The purpose of the article is to examine literary activity of the director of Ukrainian stage art Les Kurbas as a collective and integral system of his views on drama as a genre of literature and a form of art, on the specifics of its stylistic dominants in the first decades of the 20th century through the prism of the reformist ideas. The object of the research is the prose attempts of the Ukrainian theater actor, his translated works and scientific works, his stagings based on the works of Ukrainian and foreign authors, and his theatrical journalism - the director's diary, lectures on directing and stage practice. The methodological basis of the research is the biographical method, the principles of cultural-historical and hermeneutic methods, as well as the principles of the comparative-typological approach in the analysis of the object and subject of the study. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the complex and systematic clarification of the problem "Les Kurbas and literature", as a result of which it is proved that the brilliant Ukrainian director began his work with verbal art (he debuted as a novelist), during his directorial activity as the artistic director of the "Molodyi Teatr", "Kyidramte" and "Berezol" staged lyrical and epic works of Ukrainian and foreign writers several times (he worked as a playwright), translated plays of Western European authors, scientific studies of art critics from Europe (acted as a translator), often studied as a director the emergence of certain modernist currents through the prism of literature and theater (positioned himself as a literary critic and researcher of drama). Such a multifaceted connection of Les Kurbas with literary and artistic creativity, with scientific and research activity gives reason to conclude that throughout his creative life he was closely connected with the word and was consistently realized in the word. The practical significance of the research lies in the fact that its results can be used by both theater scholars and theorists and historians of Ukrainian and foreign literature.
Stepan Khorob

The purpose of the article is analytical judgments about the work of one of the bright representatives of Western Ukrainian modernism, Mykhailo Yatskiv (1873-1961). The object of research was the prose works of the writer, and the subject of study was the peculiarities of Halychyna novelist's artistic thinking. The author of the article, dedicating it to the 150th anniversary of the birth of the famous artist of words, reveals through the prism of biographical information the works (stories, novels) of Mykhailo Yatskiv, his style of writing, connected with psychologization, whimsy and modernity of his author's ideological and aesthetic consciousness. At the same time, analyzing the literary heritage of the novelist, he uses the following research methods: biographical, hermeneutic, philological, and comparative-typological. Such a methodological synthesis contributes to the disclosure of the epic thinking of the writer, in particular its modernist component. The scientific novelty of this study lies in the fact that it collects and organizes little-known (or unknown) and modern scientific works about the herritage of Mykhailo Yatskiv, and an attempt to analyze the writer's stories and novels using new methodological approaches is used. The practical significance of the publication is realized already in its title: the work of Mykhailo Yatskiv can be used at any time in educational institutions (at Ukrainian literature classes, in special courses and seminars in higher education), in works about the heritage of Mykhailo Yatskiv.
Vasyl Babii

The article provides an overview of the life and work of the outstanding writer, folklorist and researcher "Slovo o polku Ihorevim ...". During his difficult, but fulfilling and stormy life, he helped many people a lot, if not with advice, then with personal intervention in unfavorable circumstances, with a kind word, with moral support.

Stepan Hryhorovych Pushyk (1944 - 2018) is a significant figure in Ukrainian literature and literary studies. His creative and scientific legacy is a multifaceted and profound phenomenon. However, scientific research did not end with this work. Pushyk's research "The Bloody Wedding on Kayal" (about the "dark" places in "Slovo o polku Ihorevim") can be considered a scientific discovery.

The intuition of Stepan Hryhorovych was also phenomenal, as his innate workaholism was, because even a few hours before his death he was still working on an article for the magazine "Dzvin", and the poet's last poem ("Parashka") was dated August 1, 2018.

As a writer, Stepan Pushyk is a unique personality. The peculiar "folklore" method of narrative, initiated by Pushyk in his novel The Galician Gate and The Guardian Mountain, found many followers: it was picked up by V. Skurativsky and F. Zubanych. The novel from the mouths of the people itself turned out to be an innovative genre. His books of short stories and novellas "The Potion Key" and "Darabs Sail into Legend" were published in foreign languages. In general, Stepan Pushyk's works have been translated into Chinese, Romanian, Moldovan, Belarusian, Lithuanian, Kyrgyz, Bashkir, Slovak, Nepalese, and Russian. 2023-11-072023-11-0718(69)421425ICONIC-CONVENTIONAL SYNCRETISM AND RITUAL-MAGICAL SEMIOSIS
https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1914

Aim. The paper deals with the features of ritual-magical semiosis, structural and iconic-conventional consistency of ritual-magical formulas. The focus is on the functionality of visual analogies in interpretive strategies, and their semiotic imitation scenarios are studied. The ritual-magical expository constants are interpreted as complexes that mirror the system of structural and semiotic iconic-conventional connections and transitions of visual and verbal experience. Ritual and magical performances are interpreted as “emblematic staging” because they reproduce traditional, “edited” by time and experience conservative rites that have a fixed connotation and structure. Methods. The study relies on a system of genetic, hermeneutic, structural and semiotic methods. The author draws on the scientific methodology of semiotics and hermeneutics, and uses the methodology of literary cognitive science. This is due to the specific nature of the study, its subject of inquiry. Results. The magical and ritual complex is interpreted as the first creative comprehension of reality by a person on the basis of arbitrary associations and fantasy analogies. It marks the coordinates of the original epistemological focuses, primarily the organised interpretive practice. The visualisation and imitation of certain processes, artificial object and verbal compilation, and the combination of images and words into a single expressive complex constitute its structural integrity. It exhibit traces of emblematic comprehension and representation of ancient thought experience, where the dominant role is fulfilled by psycho-emotional observations of natural phenomena, their reduction into a special form, system of actions and speech. Sacrifices, totemism, animism, initiations, and various magical practices established the accessibility of visual-verbal syncretism for both awareness and expression. https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1915

The article attempts to analyze and typologies the remark in prose by Vasyl Stefanyk, which is considered in the context of the trends of the tragedization of the epic that became dominant in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The purpose of the study is to identify the author’s specificity of constructing a dramatic remark in the writer’s short stories, and to outline its function in dramatizing the narrative. In this light, the remark, as the territory of the author’s voice, turns out to be a structural and stylistic element of the prose text that contributes to the theatricalization of the narrative. As well it is also a means of psychological and emotional expression, an element of visualization of the main text, and contributes to its polyphony. The study proves that Stefanyk’s short fiction is a unique form of theatricality in which the remark has an important function. The author manifests himself in the text with the help of epic and lyricized remarks, which are presented in the works to varying degrees, contain emotional and psychological accents, record non-verbal communication, outline mise-en-scene, etc. The multifunctionality and typological diversity of the theatrical remark in text by Vasyl Stefanyk are noted. Novelty. The article characterizes the multifunctionality and typological diversity of the theatrical remark in the prose by Vasyl Stefanyk. The method of analysis used can be productive for further studying of the techniques of dramatization of prose texts.
oleksandra Visych

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1916

Formulation of the problem. The intensification of the study of the phenomenon of Occidentalism in the scientific academic space is primarily related to the political background - the creation of the state and nation of Ukraine in accordance with the European integration vector, especially in the era of social changes (revolutions, riots, wars) and "passionate outbursts". Occidentalism as a democratic, philosophical-cultural, axiological worldview paradigm, in addition, immanently fulfills the role of a kind of "pendulum" that shakes the imperial and totalitarian regimes. However, the "problem of the West" in the context of geopolitical and geocultural orientation has an interdisciplinary nature, which V. Yaniv drew attention to in his well-known work "Psychological Foundations of Occidentalism", written in 1947-48 as "a boundary problem of general history, sociology, history and philosophy of culture, national psychology or philosophical anthropology, political theory, pedagogy, etc., and it even stands on the borderline of journalism" [22, p.2]. As we can see, the relevance of this problem is surprisingly acute even in the 21st century, especially when it comes to Ukrainian literature, in which Europeanism is considered as one of the methodological problems of national modernization and integration into the world cultural space in the direction of Western culture. Actually, the purpose of the article is to analyze the literary discursive practice of Ukrainian Occidentalism in the domestic scientific dimension, in particular, the period of the MUR. The author elucidates the specifics of Occidentalism of this period, the main philosophical and aesthetic vectors of its development, related to the then emigration cultural continuum, society, politics, ideology, the consciousness of the "DI-PI planets" (U. Samchuk), etc. Research methods: cultural-historical, comparative-historical, systemic, typological, biographical, historiosophical, anthropological approach. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the fact that the specifics of Ukrainian Occidentalism in the discourse of MUR, which, according to its philosophical and aesthetic principles, was a priori aimed at the development of the Ukrainian literature of the European genre with the preservation of national identity and self-identity became the subject of a separate study. The practical significance is that the main provisions and conclusions of the article can be used for analytical investigations of the European intentions of the Ukrainian intelligentsia, the spiritual national elite in the context of Western European trends in domestic literature and culture, when studying the philosophy and poetics of the literature of the Ukrainian diaspora of the 20th century, a conceptual approach to the study of Ukrainian Occidentalism in literary discourse, as well as for post-colonial studies.
Nataliya Kurinna

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1919

In the article, the stories of Yevhen Hutsalo from the collection "Children of Chornobyl" are analyzed, and the peculiarities of portraying the world of a child after the Chornobyl disaster are highlighted. The thematic scope of these works is outlined, which shows the consequences of this tragedy through the forced and irreversible changes that the characters experience and live through. Among them are the loss of their homes, friends, and parents. The following groups of characters are distinguished: those who have lost their world (Palma, Kalyna, Mykolka, Katrya), those who help these heroes (Hrytsko, Liubomyr), and those who are indirectly affected by the Chornobyl disaster (Savka-Savka, Olena, Mariana, Hanna Mykhailivna). It is noted that the past, lost world of the characters is practically unspoken and is mentioned episodically by one or two lines of dialogue from the characters, while the present world is a narrative of losses and loneliness. It is a world without loved ones, who are taken away either by death or forced searches for work. For the youngest characters, it is fragile and fleeting (Kalyna's illness, preparation for Katrya's death, Savka-Savka's death). The conclusions are drawn that the world of the young hero in these works is a world after loss, in which their future is unclear and uncertain. For adult characters, it is a world of fear due to a lack of understanding of possible consequences of environmental disasters. The only salvation and interlude between anxieties and fears is nature, in harmony with which the characters are filled with adventures, quiet joy, and peace. The following works are analyzed: "Mad Chornobyl Dog," "Chornobyl Girl Kalyna," "Crying in the Dark Night," "Rudnya," "Zozulya," "Child of Strontium," and “Christmas Story”.
Olga DerkachovaAlla Boichuk

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1902

This article delves into the semantics of linguistic units that play a significant role in expressing pragmatic components of meaning in the Hutsul dialectal discourse. Primarily, attention is drawn to intra-formal lexemes - words with a distinct internal form, as they serve as carriers of evaluative and associative-imagistic meanings in dialectal texts, contributing to the formation of semantic multi-layering within the text.

Included in addresser-addressee relations, these units are instrumental in expressing illocutionary forces of the speaker and achieving perlocutionary effects. The article, in particular, explores the semantics of the intra-formal lexeme "LUTAVIÉK" (a type of traditional Hutsul footwear) and demonstrates its correlation with the cognate word-formational nest as a means of expressing the corresponding concept. This is because the internal form of a word represents a conceptual feature inherent in the word, which carries not only conceptual content but also various types of associations and images, all of which are significant within the text as a communicative-pragmatic whole.

It is proven that the mentioned word, like any other with a pronounced internal form, can function as an exponent of various types of pragmatic components of meaning within dialectal discourse, thus facilitating the actualization of the intentions of communicants during their speech interaction.

The character of semantics of such linguistic units as "AHA YIO" and "ALLÉ" is also explored, revealing their functional load in various fragments of spoken discourse.
Aim. The article is devoted to the study of the ethno-lingual consciousness of the Hutsul ethnic group of Ukrainian Carpathians. The material of the article is the cosmogonical legend "The Sun and the Moon, the Stars", recorded by Petro Shekeryk-Donykiv and included in his book "The Year in the Customs and Beliefs of the Hutsuls", which reflects a view of the creation of celestial bodies. The object of analysis in the proposed work is the components of the lingual consciousness of the personality represented in the text of the legend, which in unity determine its mental-worldview and spiritual-value postulates: mythological units, symbols, concepts, memes. The purpose of the article is to establish the peculiarities of the sphere of the sacred in the Hutsul ethno-lingual spiritual space, which reflected by lingual and cultural units,

Methods. The key research method is descriptive. At the same time, a comparative-typological analysis of the structural-semantic and axiological aspects of the analyzed units was used. The comparative method made it possible to focus attention on general and specific features of ethno-lingual units. Contextual analysis made it possible to establish key ethno-lingual units, to determine their place and role in the integral cosmogonical picture of the Hutsul world.

Results. The study made it possible to identify mythological units, symbols, concepts and memes that form the whole framework of the legend and determine worldview landmarks in the interpretation of the cosmogonical history of the world. It has been established that the creation and existence of heavenly bodies (the moon and stars) is a sacred act, deeply and organically connected with man, his nature and peculiarities of being. The dichotomy of the world, whose life is determined together by God and Aridnyk, is reflected in the nominal mythological units, as well as symbols and concepts. Man is the reflection and embodiment of this dichotomy and determines the state and being of the heavenly bodies. The anthropocentrism of the Hutsul worldview goes beyond the place of its existence - the earth, and it itself is woven into the history and existence of the universe.

Originality. A holistic analysis of ethnolinguistic units in the text of the Hutsul cosmogonical legend "Sun and Moon, Stars" was carried out. The author's conception of the lingual consciousness structure of the lingual personality is used to analyze and describe the mental, worldview and spiritual spheres in the ethno-lingual picture of the world.

Practical significance. The research material is a source of ethnolinguistic knowledge and it can be used for a comprehensive study of the Hutsul ethnolinguistic phenomenon, in cognitive linguistics, psycholinguistic studies of the ethnos, for describing the sphere of the sacred, and also as material for a lexicographic study of the Hutsul language.
Volodymyr Barchuk

The article presents the results of the analysis of semantic and pragmatic characteristics of particles that realize the general communicative meaning of exclusivity. The material of the study is the fictional text of the novels by the contemporary Ukrainian writer Maria Tkachivska «Hold on to the Air» and «Me and My Don Juan», with the main focus on the discourse-centered potential of the particle «even» (navitˊ).

The relevance of the problem is due to the need to clarify all the semantic, pragmatic and syntactic features of the particles «even» (navitˊ), «only» (lyshe), «only» (tilˊky), «as much as» (azh) etc., which are quite frequent in modern literary texts and help the speaker to highlight a particular component of the statement in accordance with the communicative purpose.

It has been found that one of the most frequently used particles in the analyzed literary text, which realizes the function of distinguishing something into a class, revealing the maximum or ultimate limit of something that is usually opposed to a certain norm, is the particle «even» (navitˊ). The main communicative meaning is often accompanied by various axiological components. The use of this particle indicates the unexpectedness or surprise of the course of events for the speaker. This is due to the inconsistency of what is covered by the particle «even» (navitˊ) with the speaker's acceptable norms, habits, stereotypes etc. At the same time, the analyzed particle can be used in a sentence as a means of creating a comic effect. The scope of the lexical particle «even» (navitˊ) includes subjects, objects, predicates, temporal, local and other distributors.

The main communicative meanings of the particles «only» (lyshe), «only» (tilˊky), and «as much as» (azh) are traced. By singling out something exceptional among the potential components of a certain group of objects, features or states, the particle «only» (lyshe) states exclusivity, while the lexeme «even» (navitˊ) interprets it. The general semantic and pragmatic meaning of the exclusivity of the particle «only» (tilˊky) is the speaker's allocation of a certain component in the message to a minimum or maximum class, which is opposed to other classes. Such emphasis is also associated with the author's commentary. The particle «as much as» (azh), expressing the semantics of exclusivity, at the same time explicates pragmatic shades of surprise, unexpectedness, and boundary. All particles, expressing separate facets of communicative meaning, can enter into synonymous relations.
Iryna DzhochkaMaria Humeniv

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1913

Marko Cheremshyna's literary work was a vivid and original response to the demands of the historical and cultural discourse of his time. Modern literary criticism from the perspective of the post-apocalyptic interval cognizes the essence of the author's style and inscribes it in the coordinates of each reader's current experience of his or her own place in the historical and cultural chronotope. M. Cheremshyna's prose provides rich material for cognizing its cognitive and narrative originality, for understanding the writer's artistic style. Such a methodological perspective is all the more convincing because it opens up space for comprehending the "structure of feeling" (R. Williams) as one of the basic concepts of the modern metamodern paradigm. While for researchers of the Ukrainian writer's style, his modernist content and the corresponding text design did not raise any objections or doubts, for a contemporary reader of the next century, it is quite logical to turn the "polaroid lens" towards the metamodern projections of M. Cheremshyna's prose, especially in the perception/understanding/interpretation of a literary text. Similar to the modernist search for a holistic reflection of the world and its most subjective experience, the current era seeks to get rid of chaos and despondency, requiring clarity, intelligibility, mimetic display, harmony of perception, and integrity of meaning. The small prose of the Ukrainian modernist artist opens the way to comprehending the depths of the national worldview, marks the current space of human existence in the time of the Great Liberation War.
Lidia Matsevko-Bekerska

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1926

Aim. The article is devoted to the study of world-view and axiological vectors in the emancipatory discourse of E. Ozheshko and N. Kobrynska. The article deals with the analysis of common approaches to the presentation of emancipatory ideas in the literary and critical works by E. Orzeszkowa and N. Kobrynska, in particular, with the comprehension of the women’s role in the family and society, their opportunities to study and work on a parity basis with men. Both writers called for the formation of a new social consciousness in order to overcome established patriarchal norms and customary stereotypes through education and enlightenment. The similarity of world-view and aesthetic views, artistic and semantic parallels in the authors’ works is due to the consonant life axiology and the declaration of sometimes too radical views. Methods. For the comparative analysis, a number of basic scientific methods were used, including historical and literary, typological and biographical approaches. Results. Through the comparative analysis, the following main issues through which the writers declared world-view, spiritual and moral changes were identified: the need for a thorough education, the education of erudite female intellectuals, the social and professional integration of women as active participants and reformers, rather than passive observers, the formation of a new social consciousness. Scientific novelty. An attempt is made to make a comparative analysis of the emancipatory discourse in the literary and critical works of women writers. The author’s vision of the special function of women in social, spiritual and intellectual contexts is outlined.
Iryna Spatar

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1910

The article is dedicated to the study of artistic representation of anti-war themes in Mark Cheremshyna's short story "The Village Bends". Features of Mark Cheremshyna's individual writing style are explored, along with his ability to harmoniously combine the genre potential of the short story with the poetic possibilities of various literary movements.

The theoretical and methodological basis of the research are the works of scholars who studied the uniqueness of Mark Cheremshyna's individual writing style (I. Denysiuk, I. Stef'yuk), the genre potential of the short story (I. Denysiuk, M. Legky), and the poetic features of naturalism, expressionism, and impressionism (V. Matviyishyn, O. Chernenko, N. Shumylo). The research employs methods of hermeneutics (in interpreting the system of macro and micro images of the analyzed short story), cultural-historical approach (in clarifying the historical, social, ideological, moral-ethical context of the ideological-thematic content of the short story) and receptive aesthetics (in observing the suggestive influence of the work on the reader).

The research results demonstrate Mark Cheremshyna's considerable artistic skill in objectively depicting the tragedy of World War I, and his ability to combine the traditions of national literature with innovative trends in the global literary process of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. The scientific novelty of the article lies in the attempt to, for the first time, through the lens of analyzing the micropoetics of one work by Mark Cheremshyna, reveal not only the secrets of the author's poetic craftsmanship in describing anti-war themes, but also to explore the problem of enhancing the expressive possibilities of the short story thanks to the synthesis of its genre-compositional features with poetic elements of naturalism, expressionism, and impressionism.
Roman Golod

https://pvntsh.nung.edu.ua/index.php/word/article/view/1911

The purpose of the article: to investigate the anti-military conceptual sphere in Ukrainian prose about the events of the First World War, identifying the dominant concepts in it. The subject of study is the concepts of "memory" and "war". The object of scientific understanding is the prose works of Osyp Turianskyi, Stepan Vasylchenko, Osyp Makovei, Marko Cheremshyna, Vasyl Stefanyk, Natalia Kobrynska, Olha Kobylianska, Timotei Bordulyak, Yura Shkrumelyak, Mykhailo Yatskiv, Mykola Matiiev-Melnyk, Oleksa Kobets, Mykhailo Lomatskyi and Volodymyr Lopushanskyi. Such a choice for the analysis of the works is arbitrary, partly due to the presence of their texts in the currently only anthology of such prose "...Because war is war..." and the expressiveness of their anti-military conceptual sphere. The scientific methodology consists in the fact that the article uses philological, hermeneutic and biographical methods, as well as methods of linguistic and literary analysis. The novelty of the study is already in its name, and its results are in the analysis of the dominant concepts that create the original anti-military conceptosphere with the hyperconcepts of "memory" and "war". It is proved that the concept of "memory" in the prose of Ukrainian authors is multifaceted (at the level of the individual, collective, autobiography, associative), and the concept of "war" appears in Ukrainian writing as an integral component of the general picture of the world and in the analyzed works outlines its specificity of ideological and aesthetic embodiment. The practical value of the article carries a specific direction: its results can be used in the study of the work of individual Ukrainian artists of the word, as well as in the historical-literary review of national writing.
Olha Tovt
